The Get out and play! campaign is calling on everyone to help make sure that children and young people across the UK have the time, space and opportunity to play outdoors, highlighting that outdoor play is crucial for children’s health, well-being and happiness. Now, outdoor play is something that we work for on a daily basis, but it’s a good opportunity to highlight how many fantastic play parks there are in Edinburgh and how many of them are within easy reach of the Innertubemap?
Have a look at the Playday website here for events happening in Edinburgh on 1st August – http://www.playday.org.uk/playday_events/events_near_you/scotland1.aspx
So to celebrate Playday, or any other day for that matter, why not get the kids on their bikes and explore the Innertube and discover the city’s parks.
You’ll have your own favourites, but here are a few to be going on with…
- Harrison Park West – on the Union Canal – a lovely park, always busy and plenty going on
- Hailes Quarry Park – also on the Union Canal – climbing wall, pump track and Edinburgh’s first outdoor gym for big kids!
- The Meadows – Lauriston Gardens stop on blue – one of the biggest and best play parks with loads to do and a great range of play equipment.
- Saughton Park – Ford’s Road on the Roseburn to Balerno line (pink) something for all ages here, with newly refurbished play park, skate park and lovely gardens too.
Tell us where your favourite play parks are by adding your own blog post at the nearest Innertube stop!
