We were out and about with volunteers yesterday, this time in the City Centre working with the Broughton Project Group to tidy up Barony Garden, just off Broughton Street. We had a steady stream of volunteers throughout the day, sweeping up leaves, planting daffodil, snowdrop and bluebell bulbs and digging out the herb bed.
This raised planter was originally planted with herbs for members of the community to come and pick, but over the summer has become rather overgrown with weeds. A few hours graft pulling out and digging up unwanted vegetation revealed that rosemary, chives, sage and mint are all thriving, and plenty of space is left for new planting in the spring.
The Broughton Project Group needs new members to get involved in community inspired projects to improve the Park and wider area. If anyone would like to help or find out more, please contact email@example.com and we will pass your details on to the group.
We’ll be carrying out a follow up event in the spring to plant out more herbs and climbers for the pergola – for details, look out for local posters, information on our website www.elgt.org.uk or in the Broughton Spurtle.
