Beyond the Innertube: Dalmeny and South Queensferry

One of the best things about the Innertube is where it can take you. From Cramond – well worth visiting in its own right – it’s only a short cycle to the edge of the Dalmeny Estate, by the Cramond Brig inn. The path up by the River Almond can be a bit muddy and the steps are only to braved by the strong (or those with super-light bikes!), but Dalmeny offers miles of riding on private roads and good tracks, so it’s worth the effort. The countryside is gorgeous, with woodland, farmland and beaches – particularly pretty in autumn. We always cycle right through to South Queensferry, where the path brings you out under the rail bridge, and we can fortify ourselves with a pub lunch before heading home. If you want a shorter route home, NCR 1 follows the roads back into the city and is surprisingly quick. (Sorry if the pics are a bit fuzzy, it was so cold my camera lens kept misting up!)
